About us

On the train to Portsmouth to catch the ferry to St Malo, 2024

We are Holly and Ben (unaffiliated to Ben and Holly and associated Little Kingdom). If you’re reading this you probably know one or both of us.

Over the years we’ve done a number of walking and cycling trips together, including hiking the Snowdonia Way in Wales, cycling the North Coast 500 in Scotland, Lands End to John o’ Groats in the UK and the equivalent end to end in France of St Malo to Nice. These trips have undoubtably led to the desire for something bigger: this trip.

After much planning and even more flip-flopping about when we’d actually be in a position to do the trip, some friends gave us the kick up the bum we needed to get on with it sooner rather than later (thanks Adam and Corina). Things then fell into place relatively quickly, with us both getting sabbaticals for the year and the practical elements working themselves out.

So that’s us. Happiest switching off and being out in the fresh air, dealing with the immediacy of what to have for breakfast, which road to cycle and where to pitch our tent.

We’re doing this trip because we love the sense of freedom that cycling gives us. Part of that freedom means escaping the seemingly endless scrolling and swiping of the online world. We’ve decided that a blog provides the right balance for creating a record of the trip and keeping people updated without feeling overbearing like social media can. If we haven’t updated the blog in a while, it’s highly likely that we’re having too much fun (and haven’t been eaten by a mountain lion – don’t worry Mum!).
